STAR RATINGS GUIDE

Great Beginning, Great End

THE BIRDICT

💛 A plague, one that kills children, the survivors having powers and being sent to camps. Utter brilliance and I thought this started off well. I liked main character Ruby and I was intrigued.

💚 Then it got a bit lost. We go here and there and end up in one place that doesn’t seem to have a point for far too long… At no point was it bad, but I definitely drifted off at times.

💜 To (badly) paraphrase The Godfather, just when I thought I was out, it pulled me back in. The ending struck a chord.

💗 There’s a definite Hunger Games vibe to this YA adventure in the kids v adults sense. Main character, Ruby also has that guarded Katniss quality.

SQUAWKING THE TALK

🎧 This works well as an audiobook. The narration was appropriately teenagery and easy on the ears. It’s also easy to pick up and put down.
