STAR RATINGS GUIDE

Elements of John Marrs, Rachel Abbott and Adele Parks.

THE BIRDICT

🧡 There was so much to get my teeth into here. Three very different women, three unhappy lives, all hoping one man will fix it. It was never going to end well now, was it?

💚 Beyond the mystery itself, the characters’ backstories had me invested, especially Denise. Each one was rooted in very real issues.

💜 At first, this reminded me of John Marrs’ The One, albeit without the sci-fi element. Overall, I thought it had elements of Rachel Abbott and Adele Parks. A mix of dark backstories, twisty turns and a hint of glamour.

Big thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for providing me with an ALC in return for an honest review.

SQUAWKING THE TALK

🎧 You have to keep your wits about you listening to this. Especially if you, like me, enjoy trying to guess the twist.

🎧 In a story with three main female voices, one narrator has quite the challenge on her hands. But Melissa Woodbridge was not only thoroughly engaging. She also did a decent job of differentiating the characters. I still think three narrators would have been easier in this respect, but it didn’t detract from the overall performance.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER: SIMILAR AUDIOBOOKS

I guessed the ending (yay!), then decided it was someone else (boo). In the end, my money was on Denise’s mum.
