THE BIRDICT
🧡 Thoroughly likeable characters. A trio of friends, all with interesting back stories, meet up to stay at a cabin. I felt the bond between these three and liked their banter.
💚 The sudden apocalypse is one of my favourite kinds of world ending scenarios. The snow is intriguing and especially how it begins to unfold. I mean, it’s a bit random, but the characters pulled me on.
💜 And note how I said, “begins to” unfold. This is part of a series and this first part is too short. I get the sense it was one long book and just cut up into three. There’s no resolution in this part.
💛 Excellent news - this is part of a series, so there is an obvious next read if you enjoy this. The sudden apocalypse aspect reminded me of the Gray series. If you like this, try anything by Sarah Lyons Fleming. I recommend The City series.
SQUAWKING THE TALK
🎧 I’d call this both easy to follow and a mesmerising. An unusual combination and greatly enhanced by veteran narrator, Matt Godfrey. His dream-like drawl transports me to a movie scene where two teens stare up at the stars atop a car bonnet. It genuinely added to my enjoyment of this audiobook.
