STAR RATINGS GUIDE

An Epic, Stunning Family Saga

THE BIRDICT

🧡 This is the story of the Bird family. It is idyllic and tragic, infuriating and uplifting. The events and happenings are extreme, but the plot contains within it the bones of family life, from the sibling dynamics to the perpetuation of cycles of behaviour and the effects of guilt.

💚 Listen to this for the maddening characters and complex lives. For the exploration of how far a family’s love can stretch and whether it can ever break. Honestly, it gave me shivers.

SQUAWKING THE TALK

🎧 I heard this narrated by Karina Fernandez. It was fantastic, but that version is no longer available. The new version is narrated by Rachael Beresford.

The House We Grew Up In

THE BLURB

An unforgettable story about a family with a terrible secret.

When a tragedy breaks a family apart, what can bring it back together?

The Birds seem to be the perfect family: mother, father, four children, a picture-book cottage in the country.

But one Easter weekend, something happens - something so unexpected, so devastating, that no-one can bring themselves to talk about it.

The family shatters, seemingly for good.

Until, years later, they are forced to return to the house they grew up in and to confront what really broke the family apart.
