A solid sci-fi pandemic thriller. Classic Crichton.
THE BIRDICT
💜 This solid sci-fi pandemic thriller is perfectly paired with David Morse's gruff, dispassionate reading.
💛 Crichton is a giant of the science fiction genre, with an emphasis on science. He is also very much of his time, with very clear distinctions of good and evil, right and wrong. I'm a sucker for a pandemic and this ticks all the satisfying boxes of a sudden outbreak, government reluctance, catastrophic spread and so on.
💚 It's no surprise that so many of Crichton's books were committed to film. His clear cut plot and descriptive prowess beg to be adapted to the screen.
🧡 The science heavy sci-fi elements bring to mind The Martian, though this is not quite as successful in delivering scientific data whilst still being entertaining. This can make it feel slow at times.

🎧 David Morse's deep, smooth delivery is perfectly cast and has that Jack Bauer cool heroic quality.

THE BLURB
A military space probe, sent to collect extraterrestrial organisms from the upper atmosphere, is knocked out of orbit and falls to Earth.
