STAR RATINGS GUIDE
Genius Absurdist Hilarity
THE BIRDICT
💚 Another brilliantly observed, awesomely absurd tale. Only Croshaw can base an entire story around an anthropomorphised literal jam - what I think of as an ineffectual, flatulent, alien, viscous gloop - and make it so moreish.
🧡 Croshaw follows in the tradition of mixing scifi, the absurd and satire, for which Terry Pratchett and, of course, Douglas Adams are famed. There's also a bit of David Wong going on in there.
SQUAWKING THE TALK
🎧 Now, I was nervous when I realised Croshaw was reading his own work. It always makes me uncomfortable, like looking your mate in the eyes while they perform their one-man production of Les Miserables. Not the case here. Croshaw could give seasoned narrators a run for their money. Great voice, smooth production, spot on comic timing. I wasn't surprised to discover afterwards that he started off as a podcaster.

THE BLURB
We were prepared for an earthquake. We had a flood plan in place. We could even have dealt with zombies. Probably.
But no one expected the end to be quite so . . . sticky . . . or strawberry scented.
