STAR RATINGS GUIDE

A Juicy, Vengeful Delight

THE BIRDICT

šŸ’› If the words ā€œThey had the perfect marriageā€¦ Or did they?ā€ are music to your ears then this audiobook will be too. Now, of course, this is a common thriller trope (Iā€™m not complaining btw), but this is both a unique take on the genre and one of the cleverest of its kind.

šŸ’š Revenge is very much the central theme, but around it orbit so many others, particularly relating to the nature of love and family. Whatā€™s more, this has more layers than a Christmas trifle. So, even when you guess correctly on one aspect, there are several more you didnā€™t even realise were in play.

šŸ§” This reminds me of Adele Parksā€™s more recent novels and Heidi Perksā€™s style. But the most comparable book I can think of is The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

SQUAWKING THE TALK

šŸŽ§ The reason I started this review with an imagined trailer is because it reads like a movie. I could imagine every scene, every character. Georgia Maguire and Rachel Atkins are great picks as Mia and Charlotte, their voices distinct and fitting for the parts.

šŸŽ§ Brilliant narration by two excellent actresses combines with Lucy Dawsonā€™s skill to make this not only gripping, but easy to follow.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER: SIMILAR AUDIOBOOKS

šŸ’œ The ending is balanced so perfectly between a cliffhanger and a resolution. I spent the entire book thinking Mia was Charlotteā€™s sister (daughter didnā€™t occur to me) and this left it as a possibility.

THE BLURB

Never make a promise you canā€™t afford to keep....

This is a story about Charlotte - a mother and a wife with the perfect job, the perfect life...at least, thatā€™s how it looks from the outside.

But behind closed doors, the marriage is breaking, and Charlotteā€™s husband, Tris, doesnā€™t even know how much. He has no idea what Charlotte has planned for him, who she has found, why she has hired someone to pretend to be her. But he doesnā€™t have long to wait to find out....
